Between the days 11th to 14th October 2018, Katowice was a meeting point for family entrepreneurs from all parts of Poland. The opportunity for such meet was derived from the 11th National Convention for Family-Run Businesses U-RODZINY 2018, the biggest and most important event in the field of family entrepreneurs in Poland. Besides business representatives, others interested in the topic of family business such as politicians, local authorities, experts and other guests also took part in the event.

U-RODZINY is a cyclical event, organised since 2008 by a Family Business Initiative(IFR). Every year, the convention takes place in a different region of Poland, each time being a space for open discussion and an opportunity to establish cooperation.

This years edition of the convent was special due to a number of reasons. Firstly, the scale of the event was: over 400 participants, nearly 70 speakers and special guests as well as over 50 patrons and partners joined the nationwide celebration of family entrepreneurship. Secondly, the event content program, covering over 25 panels, workshops and performances, a grand ball of family businesses in the International Congress Center and an artistic evening in the building of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Thirdly, amazing family atmosphere in favour of integration and networking, as well as establishing long-term business and friendly relations. All this caused the 11th U-RODZINY to land an exceptional place in the history of IFR.

The main goal of U-RODZINY 2018 was to showcase the significance of Polish family-run businesses for the country’s economy, as innovative and dynamically developing entities, targeting international expansion. The motto for the convent stated – Aspirations and Possibilities, relating to the general question, to which the answer was searched for during the event: “Can Polish family-run businesses be of significance within the European and Global economy?” Besides the topic of international expansion, issues related to investing in technology development and broadly understood innovation were discussed, as well as contemporary sales strategies, building the brand image and the perception of Polish products in the world. Of course, “traditional” topics of the convent were discussed, such as the succession of family-run businesses, legal and tax changes having a direct effect on entrepreneurs as well was an effective management and personnel policy.
